Red Light Running

In 2003 the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported over 1.8 million intersection crashes in the U.S. From those, over 200,000 crashes, 176,000 injuries and around 1,000 deaths were due to red light running.

Between 1992 and 2000, fatal motor crashes at traffic intersections increased almost 20%, outpacing the rise in all other fatal crashes and exceeding US$14 billion per year in public costs.

Red light cameras and ‘rat-boxes’ may have contributed to a reduction in accidents on those intersections where the devices are installed. However, they haven’t reduced the number of red light running violations in other intersections.

The MOLE™’s inconspicuous nature can effectively reduce the overall rate of red light running violations. Wherever the MOLE™ is installed, it will assist officers enforcing red light running. For all other intersections, the knowledge of the potential presence of a MOLE™ will deter drivers from committing red light violations.
